Title: Maintenance Field Employee
Reporting to: The Director of the cemetery or his delegate
Summary
The Maintenance Employee participates in the landscaping and maintenance of the cemetery as well as the maintenance of the buildings. He/she is capable of using some of the machinery and equipment. He/she participates in the preparation of coffin or urn burials.
Tasks:
- Mow the lawn with a lawn tractor and/or lawnmower, as well as edges with a gas-powered trimmer
- Maintain flowerbeds (pull weeds) and trim tree branches
- Maintain beautiful appearance of the grounds by cleaning up debris (dead flowers, tree branches, etc.), blowing and picking up leaves
- Empty the trash
- Ensure the maintenance of the roads (fills the holes with rocks, earth and asphalt)
- Participate in the construction of the foundations of the tombstones: dig respecting the expected size, make the wooden form and install it in the dug hole then pour the cement. Once the foundation is ready, provide support to the service provider for the installation of the monument
- Participate in the repair of overturned or damaged tombstones / monuments
- Ensure the maintenance of the spaces around the graves, by leveling the ground with peat and re-sowing grass
- Participate in the installation of ground markers
- Participate in the excavation of the graves, as well as in the securing and preparation of the space dedicated to the burial (install the system allowing the lowering of the coffin or the urn, setting in the crypt, dressing around the pit, etc.)
- Participate in the maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and the chapel, including the cleaning of the windows
- Ensure the maintenance of equipment, tools and machinery
- Perform any other related duties as requested by the supervisor
Requirements and skills desired:
- High school diploma
- Experience in landscaping work or construction
- Experience in Mechanic is an asset
- Experience with heavy machinery is an asset
- Ability to comply with instructions
- Demonstrates rigour
- Ability to work in a team environment
- A valid driver’s license and a clear driving record
- Recent and satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check processed by the Archdiocese.
Work conditions and location:
- Monday to Friday (7:30 am to 4:00 p.m. (including a 30 min unpaid lunch break).
- To meet specific needs, maintenance employees may be required to work Saturdays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Notre-Dame Cemetery 455 Montreal Road, Ottawa. Accessible by public transport.

Résumé
L’employé d’entretien participe à l’aménagement paysager et à l’entretien du cimetière ainsi qu’à l’entretien des bâtiments. Il est capable d’utiliser certaines machines et équipements. Il participe à la préparation des enterrements de cercueil ou d’urne.
Tâches:
- Tondre la pelouse à l’aide d’un tracteur et/ou d’une tondeuse, ainsi que les bordures à l’aide d’une débroussailleuse à essence.
- Entretenir les plates-bandes (arracher les mauvaises herbes) et tailler les branches des arbres.
- Maintenir un bel aspect du terrain en nettoyant les débris (fleurs mortes, branches d’arbres, etc.), en soufflant et en ramassant les feuilles.
- Vider les poubelles
- Assurer l’entretien des routes (combler les trous avec des pierres, de la terre et de l’asphalte)
- Participer à la construction des fondations des pierres tombales : creuser en respectant la taille prévue, fabriquer le coffrage en bois et l’installer dans le trou creusé puis couler le ciment. Une fois la fondation prête, apporter son soutien au prestataire pour la pose du monument.
- Participer à la réparation des pierres tombales / monuments renversés ou endommagés
- Assurer l’entretien des espaces autour des tombes, en nivelant le sol avec de la tourbe et en réensemençant le gazon
- Participer à la mise en place de repères au sol
- Participer au creusement des tombes, ainsi qu’à la sécurisation et à la préparation de l’espace dédié à l’inhumation (installation du système permettant la descente du cercueil ou de l’urne, mise en crypte, habillage autour de la fosse, etc.)
- Participer à l’entretien et au nettoyage des bâtiments y compris le nettoyage des vitres.
- Assurer l’entretien du matériel, des outils et des machines
- Effectuer toute autre tâche connexe demandée par le superviseur
Exigences et compétences souhaitées:
- Diplôme d’études secondaires
- Expérience en aménagement paysager ou en construction
- Expérience avec de la machinerie lourde
- Expérience de la mécanique
- Capacité à respecter les consignes
- Faire preuve de rigueur
- Capacité à travailler en équipe
- Permis de conduire valide et dossier de conduite impeccable
- Vérification récente et satisfaisante des informations policières traitées par l’archidiocèse.
Conditions de travail et lieu:
- Du lundi au vendredi, de 7 h 30 à 16 h (incluant une pause déjeuner non rémunérée de 30 minutes).
- Pour répondre à des besoins spécifiques, les employés de maintenance peuvent être appelés à travailler le samedi de 8 h à 15 h.
- Cimetière Notre-Dame, 455 chemin Montréal, Ottawa. Accessible par les transports en commun.
