As Indigenous Peoples celebrate the summer solstice today, we salute them in admiration of their cultures, languages, and traditions. On the longest day of the year, and therefore the one with the most light, we contemplate the Divine Light that Jesus Christ, the light of the world (John 8:12), brings into our world. We hope this light will continue to guide the Church as it walks with the Indigenous brothers and sisters of this land in our reconciliation journey. I invite all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall to join me in praying to our Creator, through the patron saint of Indigenous Peoples, Our Lady of Guadalupe, to richly bless them and inspire all our efforts in reconciliation and healing.
