Rise Up Vocations

Do you feel called to be a priest ?

A vocation to the priesthood is a beautiful thing, but it can feel overwhelming, especially at the beginning. How do you begin to discern such a huge call from God?

  1. Take a breath. Know that God has a beautiful plan for your life, to give you “a future and a hope” (Jer 29:11).

  2. Ask God what his plan for your life looks like. Set aside some time each day to pray and be direct. Ask him, “Lord, what are your plans for me? Please reveal them to me.” Tell him your fears or reservations; he won’t be offended.

  3. Sit in the quiet, listening for God’s voice and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Put aside anything that might distract you.

  4. Ask Mary to intercede for you! Like the wedding feast at Cana where the servers went to Mary to ask for her help, our Mother won’t ever turn us away. Ask her to help you discover God’s plan for your life.
If you’re in the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall, consider reaching out to our Vocations Director, Fr. Connor O’Hara. You can find him at our Rise Up booth (look for the stained glass) or contact him via email at Vocations@ottawacornwall.ca. He can help guide you through the process.

If you’re from another diocese, check their website to connect with your local Vocations director.

Jesus' mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you.”
