Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada, the official international development organization of the Canadian Catholic Church, is launching its new fall campaign, Reaping our Rights.
The campaign, which is supported by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, invites Canadians to stand in solidarity with peasant communities in the Global South.
Although they play a major role in feeding the world, these communities often struggle to protect their lands and livelihoods from pollution, land-grabbing and the effects of climate change. They are particularly disadvantaged when powerful foreign corporations abuse their rights.
That is why the Reaping our Rights campaign asks Canadians to press our government to enact strong mandatory environmental and due diligence legislation. Such a law would prevent Canadian companies from abusing human and environmental rights across their global operations and supply chains.
To help you promote the campaign in your community, Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada has produced many resources that you can download at any time. To receive printed resources, please place your order by Oct 15, 2024.
