What is a
Vocation
?
A vocation is a calling. There are many callings: priesthood, consecrated life, single life, marriage, and more. Every vocation is rooted in the universal call to holiness, lived out differently in different people.
To which vocation is God calling you? The process of uncovering God’s plan for your life is called discernment.
The Vocations
Priesthood
Called to serve God and His people, priests offer their lives in service of the Church. They preach the Gospel, celebrate the Sacraments, and shepherd the Faithful on their journey towards heaven.
Consecrated Life
Men and women in consecrated life dedicate themselves fully to God through lives of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Often living in community, they witness to God’s love through prayer, service, and the unique charism of their order or congregation.
Single Life
Those called to the single life have the unique freedom to serve God in the midst of the regular world. Through their work, relationships, and prayer, they too witness to God’s love and build up the mission of the Church in everyday life.
Marriage
In the sacrament of marriage, a husband and wife become a living sign of Christ’s love for his Church and a foundation for family and community life. Together, they build each other up in holiness.
First Steps of Discernment
Take a breath. God has a good plan for you.
Ask God what that plan looks like.
Sit in the quiet, listening for his voice.
Ask Mary to intercede for you.
