Jubilee Year – 5th Archdiocesan Historic Church Tour

Mark your calendars for the 5th and final Jubilee Year Historic Church Tour!

On Sunday, September 14th, starting at 1 PM, we will discover the Bruyère Chapel (27 Bruyère St, Ottawa) followed by Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica (385 Sussex Dr, Ottawa).

The Bruyère Chapel was built in 1936 for the the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, also known as the Grey Nuns of the Cross. Sister Élisabeth Bruyère, spiritual daughter of Saint Marguerite d’Youville, established the order in Ottawa in 1845. This beautiful chapel has seating for 950, one of the finest acoustics in the city, and is very rarely open to the public.

Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, built in 1846, is the oldest church in Ottawa. This Neo-Gothic church is overflowing with carvings, vivid colours, statues and rich symbolism. There will be a demonstration of the pipe organ by Cathedral organist Jennifer Loveless, as well as a tour of the sacristy and all of its historic treasures.

Tours will be given in English and French. Come discover the hidden gems of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall! No registration is required and all are welcome. It is a 5-minute walk from the Bruyère Chapel to Notre-Dame.
