Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall

The Kateri Native Ministry of Ottawa is celebrating its 25th anniversary of Indigenous-led ministry (2001–2026) with a series of events and initiatives throughout 2026. Founded by John Corston to support Indigenous people through love, healing, and dignity, the ministry has grown over the past two decades into a key Ottawa-based organization committed to reconciliation in partnership with the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall.

Activities will include a 25th Anniversary Conference. Scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, the conference will be held at Naategamaa – Peaceful Waters (5642 Ferry Road, Ottawa), beginning with a Sunrise Ceremony.

  • Keynote Speaker: Fr. Daryold Winkler, an Ojibway priest, pastor, and long-time supporter of the ministry.

Celebratory Initiatives: The anniversary year includes the launch of an Indigenous Justice Speaker Series featuring Niigaan Sinclair, and a Reciprocal Land Use and Stewardship Agreement with the Ottawa Catholic School Board and Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall.

Ongoing Work: The ministry serves thousands annually through land-based programs (Kendaasawin), healing circles, and advocacy, led by Executive Director Donna Naughton since 2016.

The ministry was established in 2001 by John Corston, who passed away in 2016, and continues to operate as a non-profit charitable organization focused on Indigenous-led spiritual growth and reconciliation.
