Alpha

Got questions?
You're in the right place.

Alpha is a series of sessions
exploring the Christian faith.

The Format

Alpha talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Around 30 minutes long, each video explores the big issues around faith and unpacks the basics of Christianity, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”

After a talk, there’s always discussion time. The chance to share your thoughts without being corrected or judged is one of the most important parts of Alpha. There’s no obligation to say anything; it’s simply an opportunity to hear from others and to contribute your own perspective.

It doesn’t matter what you do or don’t believe.
Come as you are!

There’s no registration required and no commitment. Find an Alpha session close to you and check out the first night!

For Parishes

Is Alpha Catholic?

Alpha is a Christian course run worldwide. While the program is not explicitly Catholic, Catholics are among the top users, and the content is in line with our faith. The videos also feature a number of Catholic speakers, including the personal preacher to the Pope. It’s a fantastic resource to help people explore questions about Jesus, suffering, the Bible, and more. We highly recommend it.

Any parish can run Alpha! The program itself is free (though you will need to provide food). You can learn more and sign up to run a course at alphacanada.org/

The meal is actually a crucial part of Alpha. It gives people a chance to build trust at their tables and relax. Sharing a meal together is bonding and it’s scriptural! Jesus often shared meals with others as a way to connect.

Alpha has identified a Hub Parish here in our diocese: Annunciation of the Lord Parish. They run two Alpha Courses annually, as well as Youth Alpha. To learn more and connect with them, click here to visit their Alpha page.
