POSITION OVERVIEW

The Archdiocese of Ottawa–Cornwall is embracing an archdiocesan vision rooted in the conviction that God takes the initiative in all things, and that we are called, with trust in His grace, to embrace our call to be a missionary Church. We are seeking a dynamic, faith-filled leader to serve as the Youth and Young Adult Mission Lead, a builder of disciples, a catalyst for renewal, and a bridge between parishes, movements, and the next generation.

Reporting to the Director of Mission and Pastoral Services, this role will shape a missionary culture among youth and young adults, recognizing that they are not only the future of the Church , they are a vital part of her present. The successful candidate will advance the threefold diocesan call to GO OUT, GO DEEP, and GO TOGETHER, fostering growth, collaboration, and formation of youth and young adult ministries across the English sector of the archdiocese as we journey towards the Jubilee of 2033.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Advance the Implementation of the Archdiocesan Vision

    • Champion the Vision as a framework for all youth and young adult activities.
    • Promote collaboration among parishes, ministries, and movements to reflect a unified archdiocesan approach to youth and young adult ministry.
    • Contribute to the archdiocesan strategic planning processes

2. Support the Growth of Parish Youth and Young Adult Ministry

    • Develop and implement a diocesan framework for youth and young adult ministry consistent with the Archdiocesan vision.
    • Promote models that prioritize disciple-making, evangelization, and leadership multiplication.
    • Provide practical resources, strategic guidance, and formation tools.
    • Consult with pastors and parish leadership teams seeking to launch or renew youth and/or young adult ministries.
    • Support parish ministries as they host events and retreats.
    • Work collaboratively with youth ministry efforts in the French sector.

3. Support the Spiritual and Professional Growth of Parish Youth and and Young Adult Leaders

    • Coordinate ongoing formation, mentoring, and accompaniment to parish youth and young adult coordinators.
    • Organize regular gatherings for prayer, formation, peer support, and best practice sharing for parish coordinators and volunteer leaders.
    • Develop training pathways rooted in kerygmatic proclamation, intentional accompaniment, and missionary discipleship.

4. Coordinate Diocesan Events and Leadership Training

    • Lead the planning and execution of diocesan youth and young adult gatherings, retreats, conferences, and formation days.
    • Assist with the coordination of diocesan participation in regional, national, and international youth events (e.g., pilgrimages, conferences, World Youth Day).

5. Liaise with Youth and Young Adult-Focused Movements and Ministries

    • Foster collaboration between diocesan, parish, campus, and movement-based ministries.
    • Work with Catholic school boards and private Catholic schools to establish patterns of collaboration.
    • Encourage unity and shared mission across diverse expressions of youth evangelization.

CORE COMPETENCIES AND QUALITIES

  • Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church and actively engaged in parish life.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the teachings, traditions, and mission of the Catholic faith.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic doctrine and the role of the Magisterium.
  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in theology, youth ministry, pastoral studies, youth and family studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience (preferred 5+ years) in youth and/or young adult ministry focused on evangelization and making disciples.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in facilitation, public speaking, and collaborative ministry.
  • Capacity to think strategically while remaining pastorally attentive.
  • Ability to work independently while thriving in a team-based environment.
  • Proficiency with Office 365 and digital communication platforms, including social media.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • While this role will primarily serve the needs of English parishes, bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
  • Must receive a positive Diocesan Enhanced Police Information Check
