Chancery
Chancery
The Chancery is a department that collects the official documents (or decisions) made within the Archdiocese. The chancellor and collaborators work to ensure the Code of Canon Law of the Latin Catholic Church is respected, especially the rights and obligations of church members and groups within the Catholic Church. The Chancery also provides guidance to the Archbishop of Ottawa-Cornwall and those who assist him, assists clergy seeking to minister in the Archdiocese, guides parishes in their responsibilities stated in the Code of Canon Law, assists with marriage documentation, and assists with other matters entrusted to it. The Chancery also houses the archives of the archdiocese where official documents that are no longer in active use are transferred for historical purposes.
