As a precautionary measure and following the canon law process, the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall has removed Reverend Cavan-Tapia from public ministry until further notice due to the receipt of a civil claim alleging sexual assault. These allegations have not been proven in court.
Given that this claim relates to a clergy member of the Archdiocese and is before the courts, no further comments will be made at this time.
An interim pastor will be appointed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish as soon as possible.
