Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall

The Diocesan Communications Team has created two “Guides to Confession” for our parishes! Parishes are not obligated to use these guides, but we hope they can be useful to you. Our goal is to provide high-quality trifolds that you can easily print through your local Staples. The Archbishop’s office has reviewed and approved the text.

The guides feature content adjusted to reflect the target audiences: Adults + Teens, and Children. Each guide includes a simple Examination of Conscience, a reflection on the sacrament, an inspiring quote, and a step-by-step guide to confession. We wrote these guides for those anxious or even afraid of returning to the sacrament. It takes a lot of courage to come to confession; we want our guides to gently encourage them and give them confidence to come and encounter the beautiful mercy of Christ. The text for these guides can also be used on parish websites; simply email communications@ottawacornwall.ca to request permission!

These guides have been tested in one of our local parishes for an entire year. The children’s guides are particularly useful for those making their first confessions. We recommend placing the guides in easily accessible places, including both inside and outside of your confessionals. Many people use them to prepare themselves for the sacrament in advance and we recommend allowing people to take the guides home to keep.

These guides are free to use and can be printed as often as needed. Please see the Printing Guide below for a step-by-step process for ordering from Canva.

French versions of both guides are in the last stages of development. We hope to release them soon!

Printing Guide

These files are printable through Canva.com (you will need a free account to do so). You have the option of free shipping, or, if you are in a rush, you can have your order printed at a local Staples.

The designs have been “locked” so that you can’t accidently edit them. Follow the steps below to place your order!

  1. Open one of the links below.
  2. Select “Use template for new design”.
  3. Login to Canva or create a free account if you don’t already have one.
  4. Select “Print with Canva” button, found in the top right corner.
  5. Make sure Page 1 is the outside. Make sure Page 2 is the Inside.
  6. Select “Matte finish”.
  7. Select your desired amount of trifolds.
  8. Remove the option to include envelopes (they are not necessary to this design).
  9. Continue on to delivery and billing information.

When ordering through Canva, the trifolds come already folded, which makes your job easy! Please note that our design is freely shared and the diocese does not receive any money when you place an order. You are simply paying for the physical trifolds themselves.

Sample Will Wording and Charity Number

It is important that your Will include the correct legal name and charitable registration number in your documents. The legal name for the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall is:

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC EPISCOPAL CORPORATION OF OTTAWA-CORNWALL Charitable Registration # 128967353 RR0001

Your parish office is able provide you with the legal name for your own parish. However, most Archdiocesan parishes and programs can be designated in your Will as:

The Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of OTTAWA-CORNWALL, for the benefit of [ Specific Parish, Cemetery, Ministry or Program ] in [ Town / City ].

You may also consider the following clauses in your Will:

For your parish:

“To pay to (Legal Name of Parish) Roman Catholic Parish for its own use absolutely, the sum of (amount) dollars. I declare that the receipt of the person professing to be the Pastor or Parochial Administrator of the parish shall be sufficient discharge to my Trustee who need not see to the application thereof. I further direct that if the (Name of Parish) does not exist at the time of my death, this bequest shall be paid to the Parish’s successor, and if no such successor exists, then to an institution with similar objectives and goals.”
