Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall

It is with deep sorrow that I received the news of the tragic loss of six lives in the Barrhaven attack this past Wednesday. This is a moment of great pain for the community of Ottawa, and especially for our Ottawa Catholic Schools, where two of the children were students. Our hearts break for their families and loved ones.

In times of grief, we often find solace in the Scriptures. As I reflect on the shortest verse in Scripture, “Jesus wept,” I am reminded of the profound empathy and compassion of our Lord in the face of human suffering. His heart also breaks in this moment. He weeps with us.

Let us join in prayer for the eternal peace and rest of Darshani, Inuka, Ashwini, Rinyana, Kelly, and Amarakoonmubiayansela. In this painful hour, our prayers also extend to Dhanushka, who remains hospitalized, and to the families and loved ones who are grappling with the unimaginable pain of their loss.
